Venabu Mountain Hotel (932m asl) lies in the middle of Venabygdsfjellet's open plateau, directly south of the Rondane National Park. This high mountain plateau with deep gorges, spectacular waterfalls and mountain tops rising up to 1500m is perfect for those wanting to experience Norways' nature. Venabygdsfjellet has a very stable inland climate and good snow conditions.
Good tracks and pleasant trips with guides have become a trade mark for the hotel. Guided ski tours out of the prepared tracks is our way to lead you back to proper cross country skiing - the way our ancestors skied from place to place.
For more than 20 years we have had our own stable with Norwegian horses, offering sleigh/wagon rides and riding. Our family has progressively built up Venabu with the slogan 'Friendliness and helpfulness'. In co-operation with our loyal, local staff we do our best to provide a friendly atmosphere where all our guests can feel at home.

Winter 2009.  For six weeks in 2010 (February 28. - April 10.)
we will be organising guided ski trips in the Rondane & Ringebu mountains. Each day we aim to cover between 15 to 35 kilometres, depending on the weather and snow conditions. We make a packed lunch from the breakfast buffet. The trips require good ski equipment for skiing out of the prepared tracks. Ski equipment can be hired from the hotel. All participants must have a windproof jacket with hood, windproof trousers, good hat and gloves, sunglasses and a small rucksack for day provisions and extra clothes. Don't forget to bring a thermos. Given reasonable weather, the program will be as described (top right on this page). The trips may be changed due to rough weather conditions.

Price from NOK 6910 pr perosn in doubleroom includes: 7 nights with full pension (dinner, breakfast and selfmade lunch pack + refill of thermos). Room in the west wing. 5 days skiing with tour leader. Additional fee for transportation to and from Venabu Mountain Hotel.

SATURDAY:
Arrival in Venabu in time for dinner.
SUNDAY:
Information session & waxing of skis in the ski stall after breakfast. Although no special group trip is planned for the first day, we can help with recommendations - time to get the muscles going and the ski legs back! After dinner there’s a slide show about the mountains.
MONDAY:
Ski trip starts from Venabu, going west towards Svartfjell and over the top of Dynjefjell (1151m). Rewarded with excellent views over the Jotunheimen mountain range and Gudbrandsdal, Norway's longest valley, it's well worth it. The return part of the trip descends partly in the birch forest and gentler terrain across the plateau. The length of the trip is approximately 16 kms. In the evening there’s a buffet meal.
TUESDAY:
Today's trip heads south for 22 kms to Øksendalen. This forms part of the "Troll løype", a continuous ski track marked from Høvringen in the north to Lillehammer in the south, a total length of over 160 kms. Venabu lies well placed in the middle. We pass by the waterfall of Dørfallet, crossing open mountains all the way. At the end of the trip we take the minibus back to the hotel, and have time to relax in the sauna before dinner.
WEDNESDAY:
The trip to Enden, 22 kms, crosses to the other side of the local mountains. It's a trip in varied terrain with some woodland, plateau and mountains. We begin by skiing to the northern part of the track network, on 7 kms of prepared tracks before continuing north over Klopptjørnhøgda. The last part of the trip descends down Svabudalen and Fantbekken. A relaxing end to a wonderful trip. We have a coffee at Enden Fjellstue where we are picked up for the short drive back to the hotel. In the evening we serve our Norwegian specialities buffet.
THURSDAY:
An early start (8.00am) for the drive to Rondablikk. From here we ski south-east, again along part of the Troll Løype. This is the longest trip of the week, at 35kms, but the terrain is not too demanding. The views of the Rondane National Park are excellent with peaks over 2100m. This is cross country skiing at its best! Gliding southwards we eventually connect with the trail network for the last 10km leading to Venabu.
FRIDAY:
A short drive to our starting point at Gunstadseter for the last 20 kms of the week. From this old summer farm we head towards Muen, the familiar landmark mountain at 1424m.. Crossing the county boundary and watershed between the valleys of Gudbrandsdlen & Østerdalen we ski around or over Gråhøgda and a short break at DNT cabin Gråhøgdbu. Before returning to Venabu, we have time to visit Dørjuvet, Venabu's very own Grand Canyon. The 100m vertical sides make an impressive sight with the snow overhanging the edges. An exhilarating glide down to the river Mya before the last short climb to the hotel ends a rewarding weeks skiing. In the evening, a aperitif before dinner and maybe a last dance on the dance floor.

Departure after breakfast.

Transport: Direct bus from Oslo Gardemoen airport every Saturday at 2pm, returning the following Saturday at 09.30. If arriving by train we can collect from Ringebu station. Bus price 370,- each way.
