Voss - Bergen
Why stop at Voss after travelling on Rallarvegen? From Voss you can bike nearly all the way to Bergen. Voss is Norway's capital of extreme sports, offering white-water rafting, rock climbing and paragliding and lots more. It might just be worthwhile spending an extra day in Voss!
The bike path leads to the Vangsvatnet Lake and on to Bulken, though we would advise you to take the local train there to Evanger because of the heavy traffic along some stretches of the route. From Evanger on you bike through the Teigdalen valley and up Nesheimfjellet (mountain pass). It’s a steep climb up the hills but you will be rewarded when you get to the top -- the climb takes you up 720 metres above sea level and offers a spectacular view over the surrounding mountains and fjords. (It’s possible to order transport up the steepest part.) From the top, the road swings down to Eksingedalen, where you bike along the river Ekso, winding its way through the valley and down to the fjord. Beautiful waterfall landscape with innumerable large and small waterfalls. You bike along narrow roads and have to pass through several narrow tunnels without lighting. The tour follows the fjord to the small industrial town of Dale. From Dale on, you take the train to Voss, Haugastøl or Oslo - or to Bergen. The harbour in Bergen is on the UNESCO World Heritage list: unique and beautiful is the row of protected wooden buildings forming the waterfront in Bergen, build during the fabled Hanseatic period. The same building pattern has been maintained for almost 900 years.
